Winner of the GSA 2000 Design Honor Award, this project included the design for the replacement of four aging chillers with a total capacity of 1500 tons of refrigeration that were demanding excessive maintenance and energy consumption. A timely review of operational efficiencies, the potential for use of a plate fin heat exchanger during beneficial climates, and the potential for additional energy savings through the use of variable frequency motor drives on pumps, were all included in the design.
